Encouraged by pedigree research that Cammina, dam of ODEON, although not a winner in her own right, she was nevertheless a daughter of the prolific mare Zanzara, whose 14 winning offspring includes such high class performers as Showdown - winner of Middle Park St (Gr1) Newmarket, Coventry St (Gr2) Royal Ascot and Queen Anne St (Gr3) Royal Ascot; Matatina - winner of Nunthorpe St (Gr2) York; Farfalla - winner of Queen Mary St (Gr2) Royal Ascot; Enrico - winner of Clarence House St (L) Ascot, St James's St (L) Epsom and Victoria Cup H'cap (L) Ascot and Italiano - winner of 7 races and placed second in Westbury St (Gr3) Sandown and Coventry St (L) Kempton Park. Zanzara traces to the same broodmare family at Set Free, dam of classic winners Juliet Marney, Julio Mariner and Scintilate. Both mares can be traced back to Democratie (by Epinard) - one of the most brilliant horses ever bred in France. The two branches of the same family originated from Fair Freedom and Zanzara. Fair Freedom being by the brilliant Fair Trial out of Democratie and Zanzara being by Fairey Fulmar (son of Fair Trial) out of Sunright (By Solario) out of Democratie.

The combination of Fair Trial - one of the strongest influences for speed in the thoroughbred - with Epinard (and his exceptional daughter, Democratie), proved the preponderance of speed, capable of enduring through several generations.

Whereas the sire of Odeon, Royal and Regal, was in fact the best of the progeny of Vaguely Noble, to race exclusively in North America winning the Florida Derby (Gr1) and also was the sire of Arctic Royale, winner of the Goffs Irish 1000 Guineas (Gr1) classsic at the Curragh.

ODEON was trained by Henry Cecil in Newmarket and has the distinction of winning or being placed in each of her 12 races at 2 and 3 years of age. She was the winner of the Galtress St (L) at York, and was placed second in the Hoover Fillies Mile (Gr2), Park Hill St (Gr2) Doncaster, Nassau St (Gr2) Goodwood and Sun Chariot St (Gr2) Newmarket, as well as being placed third in the Musidora St (Gr3) York and Princess Royal St (Gr3) Ascot.
